Demeter’s Pantry/Taste of Crete LLC
Bridgewater, New Jersey
(Small Business)
Esther Luongo Psarakis started Taste of Crete in November 2004 with her first product- Taste of Crete PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Since that time, the product line has grown to more than 30 items representing the best natural, artisan and organic Greek products. Leading stores such as Whole Foods, Kings Supermarkets, Balducci’s, Dean & DeLuca now carry the brands.
Upon discovering that there is limited information available that addresses starting a specialty food company, she entered into a partnership with Dom Celentano, coining the new term “Foodpreneur”™ and creating a series of workshops and courses that specifically address the needs of the start up food entrepreneur.
Esther has won awards for both for her business success and her products, including the NJSBDC State Small Business Success Award, 2006 Gold Medal in the Olives Oils of the World competition and the Best of Aisle Award at the NY Fancy Food Show 2006 for Evangelia’s Traditional Greek Cookies.
The company provides job opportunities for adults with developmental difficulties in conjunction with The Midland School in Branchburg, providing packaging and shipping services.
